European Nightcrawlers (Eisenia hortensis) have earned their reputation as the gold standard in fishing bait. These robust worms typically measure 4-6 inches in length, making them perfect for larger fish species.
Exceptionally durable with thick, muscular bodies that stay on hooks longer
Produce natural attractants that fish can detect from considerable distances
Most effective for species like largemouth bass, catfish, and walleye
Superior survival rate in both warm and cool water conditions
Pro Tip: Thread these worms onto the hook in segments to create an enticing presentation that mimics natural prey movements.
Red Wigglers (Eisenia fetida) are smaller worms that excel at targeting species that prefer more diminutive prey. Their constant movement and manageable size make them particularly effective for pan fishing. These guys can be on the thin side so make sure to keep them well fed and their bedding moist for the plumpest worms.

Perfect size for crappie, bluegill, and yellow perch
Releases scent trails that attract fish in both clear and stained water
Ideal for use with lighter tackle and smaller hooks
Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor larvae) offer a unique alternative to traditional worm bait. Their firm texture and high protein content make them particularly attractive to certain species.
Outstanding choice for ice fishing
The natural golden color provides excellent visibility for feeding fish
Particularly effective for trout fishing in streams and lakes
They can be easily combined with artificial lures for enhance effectiveness
Their bright color makes them a bit easier to see in murky waters

Match the bait size to your target species - bigger isn't always better
Use appropriate hook sizes: size for your chosen bait
Thread the worms naturally to maintain their movement and attractiveness
Consider water temperature when selecting bait - different species perform better in varying conditions
Remember, success in fishing often comes down to presentation and patience. The right bait properly presented will significantly increase your chances of a successful outing.
Presentation Tips for Success

For mealworms: Store in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks. Once every 2 weeks, remove them from the fridge for approximately 24 hours. During this time, provide them a sliver of carrot or potato for moisture. As they warm up they will drink and become more active. Remove the carrot or potato a couple of hours before replacing them in the fridge.
Mealworms can be kept in this manner for many weeks. Ours were all still alive after an 8 week test using this method.
Expert Storage Tips

Keep European Nightcrawlers and Red Wigglers, at 60-80°F for optimal health. Store all worms in breathable containers with moist bedding material. We have mixed a tiny bit of food into their bedding and found they are fine for 2-3 weeks or more.
